Let's discuss this here instead of in the male rape thread.
My guess is that there is no one here who has been circumcised as an adult. If I am wrong about this, please chime in. My point about this is that it is difficult to know what being the other way would feel like. I've heard arguments through the years on both sides, but I don't recall hearing about circumcision and condom use.
I don't think I'll get any argument that condoms reduce sensation.
I also hope I won't get much argument that condoms will remain a necessary thing for most of us for the foreseeable future.
What I am wondering is whether the reduction in sensation from using a condom is greater for those who are circumcised. Looking at the physics of it, I think it would be. That is, if I have to wear a condom, I think I'd rather be circumcised.
BTW, I was circumcised as an infant and my father never was.
Also, I see female genital mutilation as -- words are inadequate -- horrible. Calling it circumcision may be somewhat accurate, but it is nothing like male circumcision. The whole point of female mutilation is to prevent orgasm. Talk about your second class citizen!

DavidAtl,
I have to assume that you and your brother have talked about the difference between before and after he was cut.
Can tell us if he prefers being cut, or wishes he hadn't done it?

Maybe his classmates kept refusing going down on him? People can be so finicky!
Adult Circumcision
Funny..well, not really funny. My youngest brother decided to get a circumcision in college. He was embarrassed about not being circumcised. I've never really asked him about it, because it was my big-mouthed mother who told me.

Ok .. regardless of one's stand on the issue - that article was worth reading just to hear the term "genital integrity".

And on the subject of pierced ears, my guess would be that they are, well, obvious, while the penis is usualy not publicly displayed. <g>
I have a problem with
I have a problem with parents' piercing a child's ears, but since that can grow back to look normal, it's not the same argument.
Yet, most people are much more shocked by ear piercing (on males) than by circumcision -- which perhaps reveals their emotional standpoint?
Legality
I'd like not to take sides on the issue of whether a 12 year old (or any child) should be circumcised, but it seems to me that if the child has gone 12 years with his foreskin intact, and since that means he's 2/3 of the way to legal adulthood, then the child should be able to wait until age 18.
However, I don't exaclty see the legal difference between a parent's deciding the circumcise a child at age 1 month versus 12 years. Whatever the parent's reason, I don't see how the courts can block it.

Well, it seems that things
Well, it seems that things can get really crooked up, when it comes to snipping boy's bits.
Take a look at these two sites:
- Court blocks father from circumcising 12-year-old son
- An Appeal for Misha
Can you imagine the reasoning of this father? "Son, I've converted to juddaism, so *you* have to get rid of your touque". The nerve!
Hmmmmm...

Now that I think about it, I'm acutally probably more sensitive underneath, too, but to the point where too much direct stimulation is uncomfortable, and thus doesn't really feel so much sexual as unpleasant! I guess that's why I'd say that sexually speaking, my foreskin is the most sensitive part of me; it's at least the most sensitive part of me to which manipulation feels good.
And Brandon, I'd like to see (more than) a little of that geek-on-car action ;-).

Oh come on, no one's even a little excited at the thought of me slapping my junk on the hood of my car? Gosh, its like talking to corpses!
Seriously, though, I was only kidding.
really?

My goodness .. That's one I haven't heard of. I think it's fair to say you may be in the minority there!
For me, the 'sensitive' bits are still well and truly covered - hence the lack of problem whilst cycling, etc.

Retract and Slap
There's an image I didn't need. Brandon, slapping it on the hood of a car.

Not the forskin itself. Just
Not the forskin itself. Just the head tends to be more sensitive when it is exposed. If i'm riding a bike or in a car I don't feel a thing unless I retract my forskin and slap my cock on the hood of the car or something.
cut
The word connotes a gruesome image, but..... Egghead, you always intrigue me and give a good chuckle. My Dad said exactly the same thing to me. Ditto, too, on the overstimulation. I remember trekking back up through the ravines at the University of BC and nearly passing out!
I'd Rather Regrow Hair
Matticus said: Tell me though .. if it were simple to grow your foreskin back overnight, would you rather that?
Why not just sligshot around the sun and go back in time?
Seriously, if I could try it, I would. BUT, if this meant that I would have to be re-cut every day to be as I am now, no thanks.
If I were going to wish, I'd wish for another inch (or maybe two), hair on my head, or a metabolic rate that automatically burned off excess calories. All of these would be more important to me than whether I had foreskin.
I had never given circumcision as much thought as I have this week. When I asked my father about why he I was and he wasn't, he told me that foreskin was a nuisance and I was better off without it. That was good enough for me. Since I am a grower, not a shower, I don't seem to have a problem with irritation.
Although, I must say that there are times when riding the bike that I am annoyed by the stimulation (friction). However, if foreskin is a sensative as I am led to believe, wouldn't that also be a problem?
Aesthetically, I prefer cut. I've never been with a man who isn't. Also, hygenically, my first thought upon approaching an uncut penis would be "how clean is it."
It occurs to me that this topic isn't geeky, but I can't think of a better place to discuss it.
Thanks.
Cheeky
Me? Cheeky? I think vorpal just took away my title of most blunt commentor.
Vorpal, tell us how you really feel.
I'm uncircumcised, and I
I'm uncircumcised, and I have to say that I'm really thankful that my parents' doctor insisted on leaving me that way and refused to perform the procedure, despite the fact that they originally had opted for it.
I don't mean to put anyone down here or say that uncircumcised dick is the only way to go, but I strongly, strongly prefer the look of an uncut guy. There's definitely some handsome, circumcised cock out there, but I find that a lot of cut guys have a good amount of discolouration and scar tissue, and their glans look dried out from not being protected.
Unfortunately for me, all of my past lovers save one have been snipped, and I would never reject anyone on the basis that they had been circumcised. I've generally been the first uncut guy most of the guys I've been with have experienced, and while they're not sure what to think at first since it's a new thing for them, several months into the relationship, they're wishing that they had remained uncut. My current guy is actually stretching, and he's made awesome progress. He almost looks natural, and it's a huge sign of pride for him.
I'm really very strongly opposed to childhood circumcision unless it's medically necessary. If someone opts for circumcision when they're an adult, for religious reasons or otherwise, I fully support their decision, but to forcibly, irreversibly, and unnecessarily remove part of a baby is abuse. If I were to request to have a baby tattooed, even inconspicuously, I would probably have Children's Aid on my ass so fast that my head would spin, but somehow it's okay to have a baby's penis hacked? It baffles me.
Condoms definitely reduce sensation and excitement for me, but I use them until I'm in a serious, committed relationship, like I am now! (Woo hoo bareback!) Anyways, how this compares to a guy who's circumcised, I have no idea :-).

Yeah, bring it on! Hey.. is that better or worse than sex with a robot?
Until then, let's discuss.
Oh, you're a cheeky man
Ok, well to begin with - lube is definitely not a prerequisite for me to spend some quality time with myself!
Tell me though .. if it were simple to grow your foreskin back overnight, would you rather that?
Aesthetically I don't think it matters much either way. I don't think a penis looks that great when it's wrinkly either way - whether it's got a poloneck jumper on or not. And when it's hard - hmm.. I've had sexual experiences with a little of each - but I'm afraid I can't say my experience base is wide enough to say which is necessarily better. I guess I would prefer a guy with his foreskin still attached - if only for the reason that I know how things feel for me so I'd be 'comfortable' with it. That aspect aside, I really don't think I'd care either way.
Astroglide
Matticus,
Lube is a must. Astroglide lasts *much* longer than the alternatives you suggested.
One day, as in Brainstrom, we may be able to feel what someone else feels. Until then, let's discuss. <g>
I've heard the 'loss of
I've heard the 'loss of sensitivity' thing and that would be enough to make me rather pissed if I were snipped at as a baby.
There's also the potential damage that is caused. I've heard horror stories about some men who have ended up with a Frill Necked Lizard in their pants from a circumcision gone wrong - but I guess things like that are a lot less common these days.
I do wonder though .. with no foreskin in place, how does a guy masturbate comfortably?? Those who have one will know that the foreskin provides for lubrication all by itself - otherwise it's just hand on skin, right? Hence the spitting-in-hand or glob of KY that's required. Personally I just wouldn't like to go to that extra trouble. Having a wank is messy enough without having to worry about lube as well.
As a general rule I would
As a general rule I would think that circumcision will reduce sensativity...with or without a condom.
I love my foreskin... I
I love my foreskin... I don't know how would I feel if it was taken from me (maybe I wouldn't care, knowing not what I would have lost). But this hypothetical lost makes me absolutely revolted against circumcision of baby boys.
I have no problem wearing a
I have no problem wearing a condom. If anything, having a foreskin makes me more sensitive, often guys who arn't don't realize it and wind up being a little too...aggressive. I would guess because the head is not constantly exposed to the elements.
